On June 12th, 2012, The Calyx Institute's Executive Director Nicholas Merrill participated in a panel discussion entitled "Privacy as if Users Mattered" at the Personal Democracy Forum 2012 conference, held at New York University's Skirball Center.

On October 20th, 2012 The Calyx Institute's executive director Nicholas Merrill gave a talk on the main stage at the PopTech conference in Camden, Maine.
PopTech described the talk in this way: "Nicholas Merrill created the Calyx Institute to educate the public regarding the lack of privacy in telecommunications and to develop the infrastructure to implement secure mobile phone and Internet services in a way that has not been done before. “It is just part of human dignity that we want to keep parts of our lives private and have control over who we let in and who we don’t.”
